Pretend
04:05
|
|||
Sieve headed watch it drain away
Incomprehension is the slap back moment of dread
Learned a new thing at school today
Won’t take it further ahead
Slack jawed missed the joke again
Sink in the ground hear the muffled sounds over my head
T-rex arms pushing fate away
Play dead for the whole day
Pretend
Don’t want to give it away
Offend
Crawl under a stone
and dip your nose in your gamma ray
It’s important to understand the differences between being direct and being rude
Directness is frank and honest
While rudeness is aggressive and disparaging
By using direct speech you can be clear without making your listener feel like they have to defend themselves and their ideas
For an interaction to be successful
The needs of both communicators needs to be considered
Pretend
Don’t want to give it away
Offend
Crawl under stone
and dip your nose in your gamma ray
You sense
You’re on a different plain
and You’re friends
Are other chicks in the nest
Who fatten up as you waste away
You’re in a different page
And you fear
Humiliation is life
And Confidence was a holiday
Details fall away from me
End chat coz the facts crawled out of my head
Tongue tied and oblivious
Don’t retain what I read
Tormented by technology
Back turned and it leap frogs over my head
Fell behind where I’m supposed to be
Forgot the words that you said

A Disturbance
05:00
|
|||
It’s time to fly up to your bed again
Please try to stop me seeing red again
or green or blue
We play stay with me
and destroy the heart
Then make extravagant gestures
and pull our lips apart
Make it stop
Let it end
Are we finally finished now?
Happy news
will descend
and I’m just getting started
Appears I’m going to lose head again
Please try to stop me seeing red again
or green or blue
React to something that was said again
Should be more careful where you tread again
The blames on you
This is the greatest thing Ill ever have
But it’s not OK
Can’t see reason through the blizzard
or keep the snide at bay for long
Recall scenarios to weaponise
I will rack my brain
Survey the damage i inflicted
and the ground not gained for what?
I
will
hold
you
and we
will
be
alright
Tonight
This time
I
miss-
sold
you
and you
will
pay
the
price
This time
Tonight
I
en-
fold
you
Stop
you
taking
flight
It’s not right
But you’re mine
For all time

Things that you no longer tolerate
Cut them adrift and leave
Give them the means to defend themselves
Distant bang from their final scene
They're my main main theme
They're my main main theme
You've washed your hands of collections
The search for the final piece
Scrutinising the details
The family tree's last leaf
They're my main main theme
They're my main main theme
Distance yourself from a period
An obsession with irrelevant things
Leaving them out on a Wednesday
What you're finished with I'll always be
They're my main main theme
They're my main main theme
Feeling nostalgic for everything
Squeezing the last from a fad
Beginning to doubt, the excitement's ran out
Is there anything left in the can?
They're my main main theme
They're my main main theme
They no longer die
They no longer rest in peace
They're not supermen
They are mortal just like me
They still matter to me
I want it back
The feeling
I still want to believe
Their rock'n'roll tales

Broccoli For A Giant
04:38
|
|||
I’m asleep now, but I don’t know that yet. I feel wide awake, more awake than i can remember. Fresh, invigorated and ready for what the day will bring. That said - I don’t anticipate any real challenges. That would be highly unusual. It’s not as if I've got a real job or anything. You know, like a fireman or a doctor, or even something fundamentally important to society like, i don’t know, a bin man or something. But what I mean is IF something challenging WAS to happen today, I would rise up and conquer it. Take the bull by the proverbial horns. I feel like a creative super hero actually. I have no such thing as a bad idea. I am banking it all as everything that enters my mind could be gold.
Look here’s another one landing on my shoulder like I’m snow white. I could use this stuff. Maybe even for good. If I was trapped on an island with all the usual male stereotypes fulfilling their roles, I could step up and use my creativity to improve the groups situation in a tangible way. The others would want me on their team fulfilling their lives with my artistic choices. They could not help but be cheered by my unbridled enthusiasm for artistic creation. In their darker moments they could seek solace in my highly original concepts and unique and enthusiastic outlook.
Another suitcase of ideas rolls round the inspiration carousel. I look at a tree and i think about that tree as broccoli for a giant and I’m pleased with myself and think that no one has ever thought that before and that I have a unique world view. That I see things in a way that makes me special. Like - does everyone see colours the same? I mean, is what I recognise as orange the same through your eyes? We may all be seeing different colours but with the same names. Do you know what I’m talking about? No probably beyond your ken.
This going well. the ideas are pouring out of me like the jackpot on a slot machine. The flood gates are open. I've got so many creative thoughts I could peel them off my wad and toss them nonchalantly on the ground for the unimaginative to greedily snatch from each other whilst I suck on a fat cheroot. I’m like an ornate fountain of inventiveness, constantly spouting original ideas and the grey people would make a pilgrimage to wash their faces in them.
I now have so many amazing thoughts that i no longer have time for a job. Wait… this IS my job! Coming up with stuff to enrich peoples lives. to help them see things the way I do. To save them from the humdrum and nourish them with my genius. How will they be able to thank me? In What form will they express their gratitude? In a practical sense perhaps some kind of giving page? Perhaps a more symbolic gesture could take the form of some kind of statue, or monument even? Anyway, that’s their problem. I need to focus all my energies on what’s important. The only thing that really matters - my work. I’m doing this entirely for your benefit. You’re welcome.

Dormouse
01:52
|
|||
I made a joke for you
Then I'll turn
and you're lost
in the land
of the sleepy
Saving a seat for you
You don't return
Coz you're hogging
the couch
of your dreams
So sad that I missed you Dormouse
There were thrills at the end
We'll be sitting through the recap
once again

Repeat the lonely refrain
Repeat the lonely refrain for a second time
You don't have to explain
We'll try harder to be the next time
Repeat the lonely refrain
Repeat the lonely refrain for a second time
This is the place to be
Revealing it's charms to me
Force fed a chameleon
You're changing your spots
Beginning to naw your own tail
Gut punch and the stitches burst
They're hoisting you up
And using your skin for a sail
Opposite of essential
When you’re lying fermenting in your bed
Inhabit the skin you’re in
It’s not going to stop
You’d better step back from the rail
No reason to celebrate
You’re sinking the shots
You Wake up inside of a whale
You feel tongue meat beneath your feet
Strapped in with your failures on repeat
Repeat the lonely refrain
Repeat the lonely refrain for a second time
Yeah this is the place to be
I'm hiding in history
This feeling's only mundane
The kind that doesn't deserve the airtime
It's only average pain
The kind you see on the streets and walk by
Repeat the lonely refrain
We'll make more effort to be the next time
This feeling's only mundane
The kind that doesn't deserve the airtime

Leave The Doldrums
03:44
|
|||
Where you are
is lovely
Can I be
where you are
for a while?
What you are
is funny
You push and
you shove me
You carpet
our home with
all your toys
I can see you
from my seat
You're buying pints and crisps
for me
It's a scene I want to freeze and stay thirsty
Forever eternity
There are things that I should know
Lay the planets in a row
That's the distance we would go
To reach the moon
There are places where we've been
Could be from something that I've dreamed
Or perhaps they were just scenes from films I know
But I've misremembered them
Scary storms rage on our sea
every time we disagree
We will watch another evening hit the rocks
and sink to the bottom
We send cheeky cards to made up silly names
There is beauty in the folds of the mundane
What's not to gain?
Leave the doldrums
Would it do us any harm?
Please can I be in the moment where you are?

The Punishing Stage
04:49
|
|||
Flashing apon the screen
War Veterans and liars
Try to avoid disease
Degenerative inspirers
Impossible to achieve
Angels are stretched and broken
Profits beyond belief
Sorry’s till now unspoken
Downing a strange balloon
Floating towards the island
Waiting to be exhumed
Following an enquiry
Languishing in the queue
Listening in the silence
Dictators ignore the rules
Technology aids the violence
We feed
Thinking about the things we eat
Spreading our toast with our good deeds
Banish our past and plant new seeds
Greed
Pristeen
Travel through time remain unseen
Taking a while but we’re still keen
Inhabiting drawers with what we’ve been
Obscene
We seep
Under your doors while you’re asleep
Sit on your chest and watch you breath
Clearing your throat with hooks so deep
Reep
We sow
Coins in our coats so we can go
To faraway lands and watch them grow
Offer our hands to kneed the dough
Hope
Hey
What does this remind you of?
Sound familiar?
Could it be that you’ve been here before?
Ring any bells?
Recognise this door?
Last time i saw you here you were prone on the floor
Clawing at yourself
Falling from the highest shelf
Flailing around dancing to music in your head
Casting aspersions
Reenacting versions
Displaying your flesh
Shouting at demons
Incanting old texts
Making a noose for your neck
Airing your dirty laundry
Soiling yourself
Clearing the room
Racking up debts
Descending into depravity
Evacuating cavities
Abandoning all humanity
Curled up in a ball you wept
This is a punishing stage
and you’re blinded by the sweat

Lifespan

Waiting in line
for the sun
to go down
for the last time
i am proud
to have known you
all my life
span
Don’t be
alarmed
in a far
distance world
there are children
with our eyes
and our fingers
and our souls
Broadening
their minds
from the start
taking notes
a full reset
was required
last two spaces
on the boat
Don’t think
of them
as new versions we can waste
they are clean
please don’t taint them
make no contact
give them space
Watching
our feet
as the ground
fell away
we are safe
in the knowledge
the unsullied
will remain
Waiting in line
for the sun
to go down
for the last time
i am proud
to have known you
all my life
span
